The Chasing Daylight Podcast | Golf News & Gear Insights Folgen

Dan is away getting his reggae on in Mexico, so the crew calls up a heavy hitter from the bullpen: Mike from Beautiful Golf Courses joins Matt, Joe, and Jeremy for a packed episode. The guys dive immediately into the biggest news in golf: Brooks Koepka is officially back on the PGA Tour. We break down the strategic timing, the specific parameters that allowed his return (and seemingly excluded Phil Mickelson), and what this means for Bryson DeChambeau, Cam Smith, and the future sustainability of LIV Golf.Later, the conversation shifts to "Experiential Golf." Mike and the guys discuss why difficult-to-reach courses like Landman, Dismal River, and Gamble Sands are worth the journey. We debate if the hype is real, the logistics of booking tee times, and why the "hang" is just as important as the golf.In this episode, we cover:The Return of Brooks: Analyzing Brooks' statement, the financial penalties, and why the PGA Tour needs Bryson back next.LIV Golf Status: Is the league on the verge of folding, or will it evolve into something else?.Game Time: Matt hosts a round of "LIV Golfer or Southern Nevada Amateur?".Matt's Road to Recovery: Matt announces his official date for total knee replacement surgery and his goal to be ready for the team trip to Landman.Scotty Cameron Pilgrimage: Jeremy recaps his first-ever trip to the Scotty Cameron Gallery in Encinitas and the process of buying a Circle T.Wisconsin Lore: A strange detour into Green Bay fandom, cheese, and Wisconsin’s surprisingly dark true crime history.Course Reviews: Thoughts on Coyote Springs (and the Bob Does Sports episode), Prairie Club, and Sand Valley.Mentioned in this episode:Vegas Golf Network: The season is starting soon! Two truths can exist at once: golf is thriving, and some of its boldest experiments still can’t find the right stage. We start the year by proving why the local game matters most—new energy in the Vegas Golf Network, a private Facebook group where real debates live, and our fresh “Joker Low Net” format that rewards players who go low! We also welcomed Relic Body Arts as a sponsor and spun up live giveaways because community isn’t a slogan for us; it’s the point.Gear lovers get plenty to chew on. Callaway refreshed the Chrome Soft family and teased the Quantum driver, with materials and cover tech designed to add speed without sacrificing feel. We talk about where gains might come from, how fitters will test the claims, and why early-access fittings at private clubs can be a cheat code for smarter buying. Then we press into the TGL problem: elite players, clever tech, but buried time slots and an audience left guessing. Our fix is simple—put it on Golf Channel in prime hours, replay it smartly, and partner with OEMs to explain equipment choices in real time so the product tells a story the average golfer can follow. The heart of the show is a fog-drenched round at Paiute that reminded us why we play. With visibility down, we moved up a tee box, hit more short irons, tightened dispersion, and tied a personal best. It wasn’t about ego; it was about making the course fit the day and the body. That theme rolls straight into putting: a quick posture reset led to a shorter putter and a better stroke. If you can’t reach a studio, grab a roll-out mat, a mirror, and a yardstick to lock in start line and face control. For newer golfers, we lay out a sane gear path—shop quality used sets or get a fit, and if you’re slicing, buy one lesson and actually do the work.We finish by spotlighting the LPGA at Shadow Creek, a full-field event at a bucket-list course that most fans will never step on. That’s how you build intrigue the right way. The West Coast swing is loading—Sony, AmEx, Farmers, Phoenix, Pebble, Genesis—and we’ll be ready with takes, gear notes, and more community wins.If this mix of real-world golf, gear honesty, and smarter practice vibes with you, tap follow, share the show with a golf buddy, and drop a review. A Starlink meltdown, two missing Terriliums, and the cleanest long-neck builds you’ve seen—this one is part comedy of errors, part masterclass in the art of putters. We sit down with David Trett of Jet Putters to trace his unlikely route from college basketball to Dallas golf, where resort events, caddie loops, and indoor fitting bays turned into a crash course on performance gear and player psychology. Along the way, he learned to restore and customize putters—and now he shares the process live, sanding down the secrecy that usually shrouds the craft. We get hands-on with the details golfers actually feel. David breaks down why long necks can neutralize torque, how shifting the neck axis toward center changes face rotation, and when deeper milling softens sound without muting feedback. He shows how compact heel-to-toe profiles can sharpen alignment, and he experiments with left-hand neck flips to chase true zero torque. It’s shop-floor truth instead of brochure buzzwords—useful for anyone debating face-balanced vs toe-hang or wondering whether a different neck could steady their stroke. There’s a candid look at the live selling boom too. As the golf category on Whatnot exploded, volume and “games” reshaped pricing overnight. David explains how he reframed shows as marketing and community—teaching in late-night garage streams, fielding custom orders, and accepting the gritty reality of packing, split shipments, and the rare nightmare of unscanned boxes. The nostalgia thread runs strong: Mizuno blades, Zebra putters, burner bubbles, and proof that smart targets matter more than model year. We trade architecture notes—from the fairness of Sawgrass to the optical mind games of Whistling Straits, the beauty and brutality of French Lick, and why Ross parkland designs reward conviction. At the center of it all is meaning. Heirloom restorations for families, a Blue Angels-inspired Phantom for a retiring Navy veteran—projects that tie craft to memory. If you love custom putters, Scotty Cameron Terrilium, long neck mods, zero torque setups, and real talk about gear, you’ll feel at home here. Tap play, share it with a golf friend who tinkers, and leave a review to help more gear nerds find us.Support the show
